“Wordless Experssion”
2015
Acrylic Paint on Geli
In this wordless expression assignment, we need to use the acrylic paint on the geli and put it on the paper, also the painting has to be related to the verse in the poem. The verse I chose was “Wild man who caught and sang the sun in flight.” The main colors for my artwork were dark red, light red and blue. I used the roller to put these colors on the geli, and then I used the stick to draw some lines and shapes on the paints. After that, I put some new paints on the geli and cover it on the old one and created some textures. Also, I tried some symbolism in my painting that could help me to explain the meaning of the poem.
Because my artwork needed to be related to the poem, I put lots of significances in my painting. First, the color in my artwork was the biggest symbol. Blue represented the wildness; red could give the feeling of sun. Also, there was a wing and some sea gulls in my painting that could represent the flight. I drew the sun with very dark red because I wanted to symbolize that the sun got caught. There were some waves in my painting that gave a feeling of freedom.
When I was doing this painting, I tried my best to show the meaning of the poem. So I put lots of significances into my artwork. That’s the main reason that why I chose these colors. I also created some textures in my painting because I wanted to make it more real.
I met lots of struggles when I was doing this assignment. Because I thought too much about how to relating the painting with the poem, my painting lost some creativities. Although I tried many times on the paper, when I put the final paint on the sketchbook paper, it looked different. Also, maybe I didn’t use the balancing energy, the paints didn't get on to the paper properly.
