PAST AND PRESENT JUXTAPOSITION

In my last artwork about past and present juxtaposition, I drew a picture mainly about a head of dinosaur with a body of butterfly. The dinosaur with butterfly was one of the parts of my artwork to show the juxtaposition. The other part of my artwork was a mountain in Winter and a waterfall in Spring. These can also represent the juxtaposition. Firstly, I used the H pencil to sketch the outline. Then, I used the 4B pencil to draw the shadow and also used the rub pencil to make the shadow look more smoothly. At last, I used the h pencil to draw some deadwoods, bamboos, snowflake and small butterflies to make my artwork look more fully. For the medias I chose for this artwork, I used some pictures cut from the magazine, like flowers and grasses. Also, I bought a big fake flower and pasted it on my artwork to make the picture look lively.
There were some symbols to show the juxtaposition in my artwork. The bamboos and the butterflies were symbolized as spring. The deadwoods and the snowflakes could represent the winter. Because there were two juxtapositions in my artwork, so it told that the past and present were happened everywhere. I divided the Bristol paper into four parts. The left part showed the winter, the right part showed the spring. The upper part was the ancient period; the nether part was the present time. Because of the division, the juxtaposition was more significant in my artwork.
For the artistic choices, I didn’t use color pencils. I think the color pencil is the easiest way of media we can choose, but hope I can draw better shadow for the sketch. Because there are two juxtapositions, one is the difference between spring and winter. I want to emphasize the animate spring, so I used lots of colorful medias. Green and red are the symbol colors of spring. So I chose to put green grass and red flowers on my artwork. Also, I drew some mountain and waterfall. I thought drawing some plants, landscape was my style to fill in an artwork and also emphasize the main meaning.
I love my artwork because this is the first time I can complete such big and creativity artwork. I think the landscapes I drew looked good. The mountain took a large area in my artwork, but there was a big empty space in the mountain that I had no idea what to draw in that area. I used to draw a snowman at the bottom of the mountain because I want to show it was winter there. However, I founded that this was not a good idea because the snowman didn’t fit there, so I erased it. But I could still see it because I couldn’t remove it totally. That was the mistake I made in my artwork that I disliked. I put most of my energy in sketching the head of the dinosaur and shadowing it. I also thought that was the hardest part in my artwork.
