“What;s In My Head”

2015

Black Marker on Sketchbook

In this sketchbook assignment, I needed to draw the profile of my face on the sketchbook first, and then fill my face with different kinds of thing that could represent the thing in my head. I found this assignment very interesting because I

Also, I used lots of lines and shapes that could make the artwork have more creativity. First, I used some organic lines to divide my profile into lots of different parts and then drew the appearances. At last, I used some lines or black to fill the empty space.

This whole picture was a significance of myself because everything I put in this artwork was the thing that I wanted. For example, I drew a lot of animals and they all had a smiling face. That represented my emotion when I was doing this artwork. Also, I drew some books, music notes and food. They were the symbols of my interests and my real life. At the top of my face, I drew the castle, fire, balloon and some other signs. They could represent my dreams.

Because I had too many things that I wanted to show in my artwork, it looked a little messy. Although I almost filled every negative space, it still looked too empty. I put lots of kinds of things in my artwork because I wanted to show my creativity. I think my art style is using lines and shapes to create an artwork, so I think I put my style in it successfully.

I could say that it was the first time I try to draw a profile of people, I tried many times but it still looked weird.  Also, how to organize everything in one space became a problem to me. I thought I did one thing wrong that I should draw the divided lines first but I didn’t. This caused the lines I drew later looked strange. I thought that I should draw more products because the artwork still looked too empty. Next time, I will try to balance the positive and negative space better.
