PRACTIVE OF LOOKING
“Practice Of Looking”
2015
Photography on Black Paper

In this photo-looking assignment, there were two steps we had to take. In the first step, we need to use the pencils and our imagination to draw lots of pictures that we might take for this assignment in the preparing sheet. We had to use the phone camera to take lots of photographs for the second step. The process of taking photographs was the most important and the hardest part in this assignment. All the photos we chose must follow the rule of taking photos and relate to the thesis statement we wrote about “looking”.

The significance of my work was to show the great power of looking. I think the appearance of person was the first thing would come into other’s mind and attract them the most. So the symbol for all the photographs was the attractive appearance. Attractive not only means they can relate to the male and female gaze, it can also be the beautiful and cute things or views. So the overall meaning of your artwork was all the things with attractive appearances would make the strongest power of looking. It is significant because of it can relate to the looking and it can also show the way that people judge one thing.

For all the photographs I took, I wanted to the best way that could let people see their beauty. When I was editing these photographs, I changed lots of different filters and chose the best one for it. The sensitometry, saturability, contrast ratio and the shadowing were the most things I changed for my photos. The colors I chose for these photos are not very bright. Even some photos only have two main colors. Also I would like to light the most important part in my photo to emphasize it.

I think most of my photographs are edited well and they can attract people to show the great power. However, some of them didn’t follow the rule of third and the light of the photos was not very balanced. That made me feel upset but I don't know how to deal with the light. The biggest struggle for me in this assignment was to write the thesis statement and try to relate all the photographs to the statement. So it took me a long time to think about how to relate them together.
